Here we are, late July. The heat is high, the ice cream is melting faster than we can eat it, and summer in Cynthiana is in full swing. But for me, this isn’t just about sunshine and summer concerts—it’s also my personal mid‑year check‑in.

As your Chamber Director, I set some big goals for 2025. One of my biggest was membership recruitment. Honestly? I’m thrilled to say I hit my entire year‑long goal in just the first six months. 50 New Members. That’s cause for celebration—but it also means it’s time for me to reimagine what’s possible for the rest of the year. At the same time, there are some goals I had that haven't happened yet. That's cause for reflection!

And that’s exactly why I’m challenging you to join me in this Mid-Year Momentum Check. We’ve got about 150 days left in 2025. How an we make them count. Here's my 5 Step Momentum Check...hopefully it can help you too.

1. Assess Where You Are

Before we can plan where to go, we’ve got to know where we are.

  • What have you accomplished in the first 7 months?

  • What got pushed aside?

  • Why did you start chasing those goals in the first place?

For me, I’m taking a hard look at the goals I crushed early and asking, Now what? What would make the rest of this year a big win for me, for our Chamber, and for our members? And then I ask, What did I not achieve and why? What got in the way or why was my progress lacking?

Remember: Start where you are—not where you “should” be. This is not the time to get down or discouraged, it's time to refocus.

2. Cut Out the Fluff

Distraction is the enemy of achievement. I’m guilty too—sometimes my calendar is packed with things that keep me busy but don’t actually move the needle.

This is the moment to refocus on your highest priorities and cut the rest. For me, it’s about protecting the time I need to work on new membership engagement ideas and community collaborations that will matter long after this summer’s events are over. It could mean less time watching TV or scrolling Social Media. It could mean saying "No" a lot more often.

3. Work Your System (or Build a New One)

If you’ve got a productivity habit or system that works, lean on it. If not, now’s the time to experiment.

One of my favorites is my “3 Things” Method—each day, I write down the three most important actions that will push me closer to my biggest goal. If I do nothing else, I make sure those three things happen. Lately, I've been utilizing more AI and planning tools. We live in an amazing time period in an amazing world. Embrace new ways of doing things.

And honestly, this approach works just as well for running a business as it does for running a Chamber.

4. Plan in Reverse

Think about your biggest goal for December 31st. Now work backward.

  • Where do you need to be by November?

  • What’s your October milestone?

  • What has to happen in September?

When I do this, I see exactly what has to happen each month to create momentum instead of just “winging it” and hoping for the best.

5. Reimagine Your Goals

Here’s where the fun happens. If your current goals feel stale, give yourself permission to change them.

I could just keep coasting on my early recruitment win, but instead, I’m asking myself: What’s something big, bold, and exciting I could accomplish by the end of the year that would make me proud?

Mindset is a choice—choose the one that makes you excited to get out of bed in the morning.

Your Move

We’ve got five months left in the year. That’s 150 days to transform “good intentions” into a year you’ll look back on with pride.

So here’s my challenge:

  • Assess where you are.

  • Cut the fluff.

  • Work your system.

  • Plan in reverse.

  • Reimagine your goals.

Let’s finish 2025 strong—together. I’m in. Are you?
