📄 “A good plan today is better than a perfect plan tomorrow.”—General George S. Patton

Let’s be honest: big ideas can feel overwhelming. Whether it’s launching a new product, planning an event, or finally tackling that long-standing goal, we often get stuck not because we lack motivation—but because we lack clarity.

That’s where the One-Page Plan comes in.

It’s not a 10-page strategy. It’s not a formal business proposal. It’s a simple, focused tool to get your thoughts out of your head and into action. And the beauty is—you can create one in under 30 minutes.

✍️ Why a One-Page Plan Works

Big projects have a way of growing fuzzier the longer we delay them. The One-Page Plan forces clarity. It answers three core questions:

  1. What am I trying to accomplish?

  2. What are the key steps I need to take?

  3. What is the very next move I can make right now?

And that’s often all you need to go from “stuck” to “in motion.”

🧭 How to Build a One-Page Plan

Here’s a simple structure that works for almost any goal—business, creative, community, or personal:

1. Title Your Plan

What’s the goal or project? Keep it short and specific.Example: Launch Summer Social Media Campaign or Plan Customer Appreciation Week

2. Write a One-Sentence Purpose Statement

Why does this matter? What are you hoping to accomplish?“To increase community engagement and local awareness through weekly summer-themed posts.”

3. Identify 3–5 Key Milestones

Break your goal into just a few major action steps. Enough to show progress, not overwhelm.

  • Outline campaign themes

  • Design content templates

  • Schedule posts weekly

  • Track engagement metrics

  • Adjust messaging based on feedback

4. Set a Deadline (or Mini-Timeline)

Even if flexible, a target date gives urgency.“Kickoff by June 15. Run through August 1.”

5. Pick the “Next Right Step”

This is key. Don’t just plan—act.“Schedule 1-hour brainstorming session with team by Friday.”

🤖 Bonus Tip: Use ChatGPT to Help!

Struggling to word your purpose? Need help outlining milestones or brainstorming next steps? Here’s how ChatGPT can boost your one-page plan:

  • “Help me write a one-sentence goal statement for launching a podcast.”

  • “What are 5 milestone steps for organizing a community fundraiser?”

  • “Suggest a mini-marketing plan for a new service I want to promote.”

  • “Give me 3 ideas for how to build excitement before my event.”

Treat ChatGPT like a brainstorming partner—especially helpful when you’re stuck in the details or don’t know how to get started.

🔄 Keep It Visible. Keep It Flexible.

Print your plan. Post it in your workspace. Screenshot it for your phone. The more visible it is, the more real it becomes.

And remember—it’s not carved in stone. Adjust as needed. But keep taking action.

🚀 The Big Takeaway:

You don’t need a perfect plan. You need a clear one—and a single step forward.

One page. One purpose. One next move.

That’s all it takes to go from idea to action.
